As we all know, it’s almost impossible to avoid the munchies when you’re blazed. I would find myself going to the kitchen, raiding the fridge for anything that’s edible, trying to fix something to eat or I would open Food Panda app and impulsively order whatever I’m craving. This happens when I’m baked alone at home.
However, when I’m with my friends… Satisfying the munchies becomes a mission, like an adventure we’re about to embark on. After every session, we would go on a snack hunt or a food binge, making our way to the nearest convenient stores, bakeries, supermarkets, and food joints. It’s as if our body is on auto-pilot, and we’re just maneuvering around town, eyeing for anything that we could devour like barbarians.
From our adventures, I’ve rediscovered my love for food on an ethereal level. After all, it’s one of Marijoinlah’s manyperks, enhancing the simple pleasures of life. In this case, I’m talking about eating.
Here’s a list of my favourite snacks and food to eat when the munchies kick in.
MUNCHIES 1# Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations: Jelly Popping Candy
Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations: Jelly Popping Candy (Big size RM8.90, small size RM2.90)
Apart from the pretty colourful candy wrapper, (which led me to buying it in the first place, and I’m glad I did) as soon as you take a bite, you’re in for a surprise. It’s not just any ordinary candy bar, it’s a whole festival in your mouth. It shocks your taste buds with tiny chunks of milk chocolate covered jelly and hard candy. Each bite you take feels different, providing a unique crunchy and gooey texture of funky bouncing flavours.Every second that you’re chewing, it leaves you guessing. Maybe it’s the Marijoinlah, but every time I’m at the supermarket or convenient store, this is the one I’m looking for.
MUNCHIES #2 Sushi at Sushi Flash, Eat like A Boss
Sushi Flash, located at SS 15, Subang Jaya
When I get the munchies, I become impatient and I just wanna stuff food in my face as quickly as possible. One fateful day, by accident, I came to this place with my friends because we didn’t want to wait long for our food to be prepared. The munchies were that insane! So we had the bright idea of hitting this sushi joint and oh boy, it was love at first sight. It won’t burn a hole in your pocket as the prices are cheap and reasonable. After discovering this place, I don’t even go to Sushi King anymore. My soul belongs to Sushi Flash.
Softshell Crab Handroll(RM3.50)
Fried Salmon Skin (RM3.50)
From the selection of cheap sushi available, I’m a slave to their Fried Salmon Skin and Softshell Crab Handroll. It’s a must every time I come here, and from the looks of the servers’ faces, they already know what I’d order.
MUNCHIES #3Raku Pizza, Build Your Own
Raku Pizza Restaurant, located at SS 15, Subang Jaya
If you’re feeling a little creative, then I highly suggest Raku Pizza. You can customize your pizza according to your own liking. Not too far from Sushi Flash, this place has a chill vibe to it. I stumbled upon this place one night with my homie after a session. We were mad hungry and we wanted pizza but couldn’t afford much because we were broke ass students. Desperate and starving, one of the servers approached us outside and showed us the menu. As soon as we saw the cheap price range, we were sold. Check out their 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor!
Sakurajima Lava Pizza (RM12.90)
I ordered one of their signature dishes, the Sakurajima Lava Pizza. Little did I know, I was about to taste one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had and it’s not just the Marijoinlah talking. Promise. It has a runny yolk in the center and you must poke it and spread the yolk before taking a slice. It has a generous amount of cheese, seaweed, mayonnaise, salmon and vegetables. Every bite we took, left us wide eyed and by the time we were finished with this masterpiece, we were like, whoah. It was that good, not even kidding.
If you need a mid snack hit, you can carry your stash around in the RAW Popup Tin!
MUNCHIES #4 The One and Only, KakLaily Chicken Rice
KakLaily Chicken Rice Stall
Located around SS 15 in Subang Jaya, this hidden gem is found inside the local market. I am forever grateful to my two friends who introduced me to this place. For the sake of their anonymity, I’m gonna call them Mahatma Gaydhi (because he’s gay and he has a lot of wise things to say) and SpongebongHempants (she laughs like Spongebong every time we a have session, funny as heck.)When I first saw the place, I wasn’t expecting much because there were barely any people. We were given a warm welcome by this cute aunty since my friends eat there on the regular. Check out their ratings on HungryGoWhere!
KakLaily’s Chicken Rice (RM5.00)
As I waited for my chicken rice, the aunty finally came to our table. As blazed as we were, we were speechless when the dishes got served. The aroma immediately overpowered my smelling senses, the munchies kicked in to overdrive and there was no going back. I’m in love. It’s also ridiculously cheap for such a hearty dish. God bless KakLaily.
MUNCHIES #5 Gold Chilli’s Buttermilk Chicken
Gold Chilli Restaurant, SS 15, Subang Jaya
I am a chicken enthusiast, even my tweet-handle literally translates to ‘chicken lover’ in Malay. I’m always on the quest for the best chicken. So, naturally, chicken pops up in my head when I get the munchies. Munchies and buttermilk chicken? Match made in heaven. Nuff’ said. Don’t believe me? Try it yourself! If you’re in SS 15, definitely drop by Gold Chilli and order their famous Boneless Buttermilk Chicken with rice. It’s euphoria.
Gold Chilli’s Boneless Buttermilk Chicken (RM12.20)
Even looking at the picture is making my mouth watery. This is the kind of dish that I would eat when I want to reward myself after a long dreaded week. Pamper yourself, get blazed and order this work of art. You deserve it.
Before hitting this joint we recommend blazin up with one of our delicious and fruity Juicy Jay Flavoured Papers.
MUNCHIES #6 Komugi’s Original Classic Pudding
Komugi’s Original Classic Pudding (RM5.50)
I have to end this list with Komugi’s Original Classic Pudding. It’s just that amazing. You can find it at any Komugi bakery outlets, available in almost every shopping mall throughout Malaysia. This simple dessert has a silky smooth texture, bittersweet caramel at the bottom and when you mix it together… Man, that first spoonful you take, will make you question where has this pudding been in all your life?! Well, that’s what I first thought when I tasted it. The Japanese really know their stuff. Another one of my favourites for the munchies.
I hope this list will serve a purpose for broke people out there. You don’t need to spend lavishly to enjoy the munchies. Just blaze somewhere with your friends, go on a food hunt and you’d be amazed.
